Introducing The Surrealists, Phoebe Katis, and Big Bad Wolf

Preparations are under way for Zealous X! We’re excited at showcasing 106 creatives in January across 7 fields at the Richmix in London. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be profiling a bit about each finalist every day so you’ll be able to get acquainted before the event kicks off.

Here are 3 of or musicians

The Surrealists

The Surrealists are a Leicestershire based quartet whose musical style varies from the sheer aggression of post-hardcore and noise music without sacrificing their appreciation for hard rock riffs and pop melodies. The band met at university in Leicester and have been screaming their heads off in front of waves of unsuspecting bar goers ever since. Currently signed to Maina Records in London and have featured on countless radio stations including BBC Introducing.

Big Bad Wolf

Big Bad Wolf is a London based band featuring washy guitars, ambient vocals, brassy hooks and deep grooves…this distinctive sound arises largely from the band’s consistently egalitarian process of group composition. From the band’s first experimentations in 2014 there has always been a primary focus on the blend within their slightly unconventional line up and how to work that into a contemporary sound whilst still honouring the improvisational element of the jazz tradition.

Phoebe Katis

With powerful lyrics, beautifully crafted melodies, and a soaring soulful voice, Phoebe writes from the heart: raw, emotional, yet universally relatable narrative are her muse, told through music that dances between soulful ballads, and sophisticated jazz-pop fusions. Since moving to London at the end of 2014, Phoebe has already played at The Pheasantry Music Club @ Pizza Express, The Old Queen’s Head, The Bedford, The Blues Kitchen, Camden, and Ronnie Scott’s.
