The Bluecoat in Liverpool presents a solo exhibition by Scarborough based artist Jade Montserrat<\/strong>, North Yorkshire<\/strong>. As part of Bluecoat\u2019s wider season which asks \u2018who gets to be an artist?\u2019, Montserrat opens these questions out further with events and workshops in the gallery space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These events include a reading group by artist Jack Tan, a radical mycology gathering led by Jane Lawson<\/a> and life-drawing with artist and model Paul Kindersley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contemporary British Painting Prize Show 2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Moving on from Huddersfield Art Gallery to The Menier Gallery in London, the Contemporary British Art Prize will have a short stay from 7 \u2013 16 February, so make sure you get there as soon as possible to see some incredible work from extremely talented artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The twelve shortlisted artists for the exhibition are:
Keith Ashcroft, Lucy Austin, Benjamin Deakin, Kate Dunn, Jenny Eden, Andrew Ekins, Pippa Gatty, Alison Goodyear, Roland Hicks, Rachel Lancaster, Joe Packer <\/strong>(winner of the prize!) and Jonathan West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Menier Gallery is generally open Monday to Saturday, 11am \u2013 6pm, except Sat 16 Feb when it will be open until 3pm. Free admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Facing Out<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Facing Out is a portrait exhibition of people who have experienced facial cancers, alongside their choice of artworks from the Whitworth collections. The portraits have been created in public by Lucy Burscough during her residency at Maggie\u2019s Cancer Support Centre at The Christie Hospital. Centre visitors were welcome to chat to Lucy about her work as they watched the paintings develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a wonderful example of art in the community running at the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester from 22 Feb \u2013 2 Jun 2019. Opening times can be found on their visitor information page on their website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll find free entry into this moving exhibition at Open Eye Gallery on Liverpool\u2019s waterfront. From an excerpt on their website, Ren Hang\u2019s UK premiere is detailed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs well as practising photography, Ren wrote poetry that sought to express the depression he felt, whilst also locating fleeting snapshots of same-sex intimacy. The exhibition title, Wake Up Together,<\/em> is an excerpt from the body of work he produced throughout his lifetime. He took his own life in February 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closing on 17 February, this is a must see. Open Tue \u2013 Sun, 10am \u2013 5pm. The exhibition of Ren Hang\u2019s work has been organised with Stieglitz19, Belgium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get Fresh 2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Running from 19 Jan until 10 March 2019, Get Fresh<\/em> has been set up to showcase a range of fresh and innovative work from emerging makers across the South West of England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biennial exhibition celebrates the commitment and diversity of makers who have been selected this year by Saffron Wynne (Exhibitions Manager, Devon Guild) and Tim Bolton (Vice Principal, Plymouth College of Art). It provides support, encouragement and a platform for their work at an early stage in their career or process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free entry and open daily from 10am \u2013 5.30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
