Pinkie has been a part of the Zealous community since Zealous began. Although she was unsure about the connotations with the genre of ‘craft’, she eventually applied for Zealous Emerge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a self-taught, older\u00a0artist\u00a0working in an unusual medium, it’s extremely difficult for me to find opportunities to show my work and to network with artists and galleries.\u00a0 Zealous gave me that opportunity.\u00a0“<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Emerge Awards celebrated the diversity and artistic merits of emerging creative talent from all backgrounds across the UK. During these uncertain times we wanted to make a case for safeguarding the interests of those in the creative industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future of our creative industries depends on the next generations of creative talent receiving adequate support and encouragement. With Emerge, we aimed to represent the interests of budding creative talent in a rapidly changing economic and geopolitical climate. Submissions were accepted across a variety of creative categories: Architecture, Art, Craft, Creative Writing, Design, Digital Art, Fashion, Film, Gaming, Music, Performance, and Photography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pinkie won the craft category with her work ‘Radical Stained Glass’, a series of stained glass works which reinvent and progress a medieval art form in order to protest, amuse and tell stories about the madness of modern life. The piece featured in this article, ‘The Family’, is a stained glass panel (120cm x 400cm) commissioned by NHS Lothian in 2011 and is installed in the new sexual health centre in Edinburgh. The panel is an extended family tree, making tongue-in-cheek references to our anxieties about sex and nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since taking part in Zealous Emerge, Pinkie has taken part in lots of different projects, including our very own Zealous Amplify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
