Still I Rise
TRIBE//’s Still I Rise is performed by 5 daring female dancers, channelling the unapologetic nature of the poem by Maya Angelou. The piece plays on its powerful words, resonating with those who have experienced struggle and come out the other side. The performance is packed with emotive movement, cinematic scenes and a haunting cello accompaniment.
“From pounding beats to stirring classical arias, the cinematic soundtrack creates a stark world gathering up…we rise.”
Showing times: 26 September, 7.30pm
London Design Festival
“See London turn into an enormous gallery as dynamic and innovative design projects from some of the best creative talents in the world pop up in venues across the capital.”
Visit London
London Design Festival was conceived by Sir John Sorrell CBE and Ben Evans CBE in 2003. Building on London’s existing design activity, their concept was to create an annual event that would promote the city’s creativity, drawing in the country’s greatest thinkers, practitioners, retailers and educators to a deliver a imaginative celebration of design. 17 years later, this vision to promote London as the design capital of the world remains at the forefront of the event.
This year’s festival draws focus on climate change and urban functionality.
One of the landmark projects (major installations) will include British designer Paul Cocksedge’s Please Be Seated – an ambitious installation that is transforming Finsbury Avenue Square. The commission creates a space for people to sit, gather, seek shade and simply admire the imaginative beauty of the work.
Showing times: 14-22 September 2019
