Bringing together musicians, performers and artists, to design some of the next relevant steps of contemporary art. Contemporary, classical, experimental performance art is presented in 4 pieces by distinct composers of the NME and performed by some of the ensemble’s core performers.
Starting with Allen Ginsberg’s epic beat poem Howl, Howl/Groan re-imagines the work for the modern day. Interweaving the original text with a contemporary redux and finding the madness, isolation and howls in the modern world.
A concept built around the female body. Every curve attracting and reflecting light differently and each individual body being different to that of another. In this piece light and shadow is contrasted with hip hop and contemporary abstract movement, creating moments of light and darkness that reflect life.

Big Bad Wolf is a London based band featuring washy guitars, ambient vocals, brassy hooks and deep grooves…this distinctive sound arises largely from the band’s consistently egalitarian process of group composition. From the band’s first experimentations in 2014 there has always been a primary focus on the blend within their slightly unconventional line up and how to work that into a contemporary sound whilst still honouring the improvisational element of the jazz tradition.
Hip-Hop/Trip-Hop 8 piece Halfpenny Pass are a passionate collective brimming with musicality and potential, fusing contrasting genres into their own unique sound. Playing with artists including Bombay Bicycle Club & Andreya Triana, Halfpenny recently released their debut EP ‘halfcut’.
Project Jam Sandwich are a world folk fusion quintet of award-winning musicians hailing from Manchester, who concoct a captivating set of exhilarating improvisations, infectious rhythm and beautiful melody from around the globe. From South Africa to Bulgaria to Scotland, their music has situated them as rising stars in their field. They have performed at the BBC Proms, The Sage Gateshead, Bridgewater Hall, BBC Radio 3, Aldeburgh Festival, Fishguard and Ulverston International Music Festivals and Celtic Connections to name but a few and their exuberant live performances regularly bring audiences to their feet.
